Ethan Lieske

I am a Site Reliability Engineering leader with over 15 years of enterprise experience. I have led DevOps and SRE teams supporting platforms that drive over $100 million in annual revenue, delivering reliable systems that power business success.

My philosophy of SRE

Tech organizations face a constant tension between delivering features and maintaining reliability. Prioritizing features can create unstable software, slow overall delivery, and affect talent retention. While prioritizing only maintenance leads to stagnation and revenue impact. We need to manage this tension not as a static value, but as a lever that we move back and forth based on the current environment.

Career Highlights

Rebuilt Orginizations

I have successfully rebuilt two organizations during my career. Both organizations went from dated design, lacking security, and low reliability, to modern stacks, managed and monitored security, and above-SLA reliability.

Booth of these transformations had measured revenue positive impacts.

Live Production Migrations

I have led several live production platform migrations through out my career. Most recently I led a live migration of a 50+ node Kubernetes cluster to EKS. This was done with Zero downtime and Zero impact to revenue.

Cost reduction

My most recent cost reduction work has lead to an overall reductions in cloud spend of over 10%. This savings was sustained and grown over 3 years leading to measurable impact on EBITA.

Mentorship

The achievement I am most proud of is mentoring several junior and mid-level engineers into senior and leadership roles throughout my career. With the rise of AI, mentorship has become more important than ever.

About This Site

This site runs on a fully on a stack built by Ethan Lieske, including bare-metal servers, networking, Kubernetes clusters, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, DNS, and edge infrastructure.

my goals

My endgame goal would be a senior leadership opportunity at a medium sized tech company. I never want to so be so far up the ladder that I can no longer see the people at the bottom holding it up.

my mission

People rely daily on the services my teams and I develop. As the internet becomes increasingly essential, so does the need for reliable systems. I am committed to building platforms that users can trust to support their work and ambitions.
